Southern Nigeria Leaders have formally adopted the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, as their consensus candidate for the February 25 presidential poll.

The endorsement came at the end of the extraordinary meeting of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum on Wednesday in Abuja.

Various ethnic and regional associations that make up the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum include the Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Middle-Belt Forum, and the Pan Niger Delta Forum, (PANDEF).

Former Minister for Information and a former President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, read the communique wherein the leaders endorsed Obi.

Leader of SMBLF, Chief Edwin Clark, and Yoruba Leader, Pa Ayo Adebayo, had, in their private capacities, endorsed Obi’s candidacy.

They argued that besides standing tall above other presidential candidates in all standards, rotation and equity favour him as the South-East geo-political zone where he hails from is yet to produce the President of the country.
