The bid by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to re-design the currency has been halted by the Supreme Court.

CBN had fixed February 10 as the deadline for the old currency notes of N200, N500, and N1000 to cease being a legal tender.

Justice John Okoro led the seven-member panel that halted the move on Wednesday in a ruling in an ex parte application brought by three northern states of Kaduna, Kogi and Zamfara States.

Ikengaonline had reported that 13 political parties on Monday threatened to boycott the forthcoming general election if the naira re-design policy were halted.
