Former senator who represented Anambra Central senatorial zone at the National Assembly, Senator Clement Annie Okonkwo has reportedly died.
Ikengaonline learned that Okonkwo died after a long battle with a terminal illness. The ex-senator was said to have celebrated his 63 years birthday on 23 May 2023 before he gave up the ghost on Wednesday.
Okonkwo was a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and once represented Anambra Central in the Senate. He also vied more than once for the position of Anambra State Governor during his active days.
He was last seen in public glare, when his son, Uche Okonkwo, who won a seat in the house of Representatives paid him a visit to present to him his certificate of return.
In the recent past, there had been rumours of him having health issues and receiving treatment abroad, following his long absence from public focus and politics.
Family sources revealed that he was “recovering after taking proper treatment in the United States of America but relapsed a few days ago and died.”
