Serbian star and former world number one, Novak Djokovic, played himself into the history books at the Roland Garros after defeating fourth seed, Casper Ruud of Norway, in three straight sets (7-6 6-3 7-5) to clinch the 2023 French Open title.
Djokovic had defeated world number one, Carlos Alcaraz, in one of the semi-finals in four sets (6-3 5-7 6-1 6-1) to meet Ruud who beat Alexander Zverev in the second semi-final.
By the win Djokovic who before the game was tied with Rafael Nadal on 22 grand slam titles is now on his own with 23 titles staking his claim to the tennis Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) title in men’s tennis, ahead of Nadal and Roger Federer.
The 36-year-old Djokovic will also return as world number one in ranking with his victory.
