Scores of passengers have feared dead and many injured in a fatal  Motor accident which occurred on Tuesday July, involving a GUO bus and a tanker at Ugwu Onyeama by Ebugu-Onitsha Expressway in Udi Local Government Area.

Ikengaonline gathered that the  incident occurred when a tanker carrying inflammable product had a head on collision with a trailer truck carrying cement and the crash affected other vehicles.

It was understood that a fully loaded GUO bus travelling to Lagos from Ebonyi State, a private car with parents and their young son and an unmarked bus, were also involved in the crash.

The deputy Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, visited the scene of the incident on behalf of the governor for an on the spot assessment.

Ossai also visited the hospitals where the injured victims were taken to and thanked the hospitals for the promptness in treating the victims as well as the first respondents for their efforts in reducing the number of casualties.

After the visit he said: “We visited the private clinic at 9th mile where a substantial number of our citizens are hospitalised and we are also here at the orthopaedic hospital Enugu where some of the victims are receiving treatment.

“We’re also grateful to the doctors for their prompt interventions because I’m sure but for their interventions, we would have had more losses.”

The deputy governor also expressed grateful to the first respondents; the military personnel, Road Safety Corps, fire service, DSS and police and all the institutions that came and effected immediate response and ensured minimal loss.

He also assured that the Enugu State Government would assist the injured persons in their treatment.
