13 brigade Calabar wins 4 of 5 trophies as Army ends combat readiness competition in Abia

Gallant officers from the 13 Brigade Nigeria Army Calabar, went home with four out of the five available trophies after emerging the Overall Best team as the 82 Division of the Nigeria Army concluded its Inter- Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition at the Goodluck Ebere Jonathan, 14 Brigade Ohafia, Abia State.

The one-week competition drew participants from all five Army Brigades under the 82 Division Nigeria Army Enugu.


The participating Brigades were 13 Brigade Calabar, 14 Brigade Ohafia, 34 Artillery Brigade Owerri, 44 Engineer Brigade Enugu and 82 Division Garrison Enugu.

Ikengaonline reports that the grand finale of the week-long exercise was witnessed by Heads of other security agencies and critical stakeholders including traditional institution.

Participants competed in combat swimming, marathon run, map reading, weapon handling and obstacle crossing.

According to the results announced by the umpires, 13 Brigade Calabar came top in four events – weapon handling, marathon race, combat swimming and obstacle crossing.

The triumphant 13 Brigade scored a total of 460 points to emerge the overall best.

14 Brigade Ohafia, which hosted the exercise, came first in map reading, and scored a total of 410 points to clinch the second position; while 82 Division Garrison Enugu took the third position with a total score of 390 points.

34 Artillery Brigade Owerri came fourth while 44 Engineer Brigade Enugu, collected the Wooden Spoon for coming last on the score board.

In a remark at the event, the General Officer Commanding, (GOC), 82 Division Nigeria Army Enugu, Major Gen. Hassan Taiwo Dada, commended the participants for their team spirit and impressive performances .

The GOC who noted that the essence of the competition was to improve the combat readiness of the officers and prepare them for the tasks ahead.

He encouraged them to apply the gains of the competition in future challenges.

Major Gen. Dada reiterated the preparedness of the Nigerian Army to protect Nigerian citizens and their belongings in collaboration with other security agencies.
