The Anambra State Government has warned people residing in flood-prone areas of the state of the impending flooding.
The warning came after Cameroon authorities released official reports that they would open the floodgates of the Lagbo Dam any moment from now.
A government statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Paul Nwosu, urged all residents living in riverine and flood-prone areas to immediately move into the Internally Displaced Peoples’ (IDP) camps provided by Governor Chukwuma Soludo,
The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) had earlier advised the people in mostly affected areas to relocate immediately to these IDP camps especially the older ones and children.
The local governments usually affected are, Ogbaru, Ayamelum, Anambra East and West, Onitsha North and South, Awka North, Idemmili South, Ekwusigo, and Ihiala.
The government statement further says household items should also be properly secured alongside farm produce and livestock.
It warns those living along these areas to act now to avoid massive devastation to their means of livelihood.
