The Enugu State Government, in partnership with FGN/World Bank has said it will support 6,000 farmers across the 17 Local Government Areas of the State in the second phase of the project implementation.
The Nigeria COVID–19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) programme seeks to mitigate the effects of COVID- I9 crisis on the livelihood of the poor and vulnerable farmers.
Mr Jude Ogboke, State Project Coordinator, disclosed this in a meeting with the Project Management and Community Facilitators.
Ogboke said that the Fadama project was implementing the Result Area 2 of the NG-CARES programme in Enugu State.
According to him, the Result Area 2 which Enugu Fadama was facilitating is aimed at increasing food security and safe functioning of food supply chains in the state.
He said that the project was providing Inputs and Assets support to farmers who were adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Coordinator noted that most farmers suffered huge losses in their farming activities as a result of the lockdown.
He revealed that the project had already supported a total of 1,170 farmers in the first phase.
“The farmers were drawn from 6 Local Government Area of the state which included Aninri, Isi-Uzo, Udenu, Nsukka, Ezeagu and Nkanu East.
“The beneficiaries received Production Assets and Inputs support such as bags of fertilisers, Agro-chemicals, bundles of cassava stem, Cassava Grater, Cassava peeler, Communal Fryer, Knapsack Sprayer, Rice Thresher, Mini Rice Mill, Rice Destoner, Multipurpose Grinder and Water Pump,” he said.
