Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh has disclosed reasons behind her decision to adopt Miss Mmesoma Ejikeme, the embattled student who was found to have forged her 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination result.
Prof Chuma-Udeh made her decision known to journalists shortly after receiving an award presented to her by the Chairman, Editorial Board of FREENEWS Magazine, Mr Obinna Mbonu, at her office in Awka.
Recall that Mmesoma, a student of Anglican Girls Secondary School, Nnewi, months ago, made headlines for manipulating her UTME result to be the top scorer and had engaged JAMB in accusation and counter-accusation, with the exam body slamming a three-year ban on her after she admitted guilt for her offence.
Speaking after receiving the award, Prof Chuma-Udeh said she decided to adopt Mmesoma as a daughter to help her actualise her dreams in life.
The commissioner said: “I decided to adopt Miss Mmesoma to help her actualise her dreams. She is a human being, so we cannot throw her away like that. We are not going to let her down. We are still pleading with JAMB to reconsider her.
“Mmesoma is doing very, very well. She is still undergoing a psychotherapy class with the state appointed psychotherapist.
“She is not the first I am adopting. Even as a lecturer, I have been adopting children and trained them through schools.”
