There was pandemonium around Orie Agu and Aba Branch area in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State as some unidentified gunmen set ablaze two Hilux security vans.
Occupants of the vehicle numbering about six security operatives were killed during the attack.
In a viral video on different social media platforms, security officers consisting of police, army and civil defense were seen burnt to death alongside their two Hilux vans, with none of them surviving.
A resident in the community who did not want to reveal his identity for security reasons, disclosed that he saw the two Hilux vans with about seven security agents patrolling the area, a few minutes before they came under attack.
He said that the community had been thrown into confusion following the sad development.
According to the source who spoke in a tension-soaked voice: “As I am speaking with you now, the road leading from Orie Agu to Isinweke has been blocked. People are now diverting to other safer routes for their safety; Isinweke and Orie Agu are boiling now.”
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident, and promised to get back when he gets the full details of the horrible incident.
As at the time of filling in this report, the Spokesperson of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps in the state, Mr Lowell, could not be reached for reactions.
