The Enugu State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Enugu has fixed Thursday September 21, 2023, (tomorrow) for judgment in a Governorship Election Petition involving Barrister Chijioke Edeoga and Gov. Peter Mbah.
It would be recalled that the Labour Party and its Governorship candidate, Barrister Chijioke Edeoga had petitioned the tribunal challenging the declaration of Peter Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the March 18, governorship polls.
The petitioners are challenging the declaration of PDP’s Peter Mbah as the winner of the March 18, governorship election in the state on the grounds of alleged NYSC certificate forgery; wrong computation of Enugu East Local Government results; and over voting in Nkanu East LGA.
Following the final submission of written addresses by both parties on August 16, the tribunal reserved judgment promising to communicate both parties when it is ready to give judgment.
Ikengaonline learnt on Wednesday that the tribunal had finally fixed Thursday September 21 to deliver judgment.
Meanwhile, the state is in frenzy as supporters of both parties look forward to the judgment.
The anticipated judgment had generated much debate, especially with the outcome of the recent PEPC judgment in Abuja.
Also, the recent judgments in the state whereby many Labour Party election victories had been nullified due to one reason or the other give a lot of concerns.
