Lawrence Nwimo, Awka
Member representing Anambra East constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Obi Nweke, has condemned the recent communal clash between Nneyi Umueri and Enugwu Nsugbe communities both in Anambra East Local Government Area.
The communities who share boundaries have fallen apart over perennial land dispute.
The recent clash led to the death of two persons while some others sustained injuries, while many houses and properties were also destroyed and set ablaze.
Residents of the villages have fled their homes due to the crisis.
Honourable Nweke explained that the present administration led by Professor Chukwuma Soludo has done so much to maintain peace, tranquility, development and progress in communities and wondered why the two communities would not exercise patience and allow the rule of law to prevail.
The Lawmaker decried any form of communal clash in the constituency, saying that the area witnessed slow development because of communal conflicts and urged the members of the communities to help entrench peace in the area.
He also called on traditional rulers of the communities and Presidents General to facilitate the pursuance of peace and dialogue, emphasising that the sanctity of human life remains a major part of the Igbo philosophy.
