Two policemen and a civilian have been shot dead at Ahiara junction in the Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.
The attack came less than 24 hrs after the gruesome murder of HRH Eze Ochulor, the traditional ruler of Otulu Amumara Autonomous Community in Ezinihitte-Mbaise LGA, who was abducted on the 25th November and later shot dead by yet to be identified gunmen.
The state commissioner of police Danjuma Aboki, was in the area on a morale boosting visit to his officers in Mbaise when the police officers were shot dead.
Report says that the hoodlums on arrival, opened fire on the police officers who were in uniform, killing two of them on the spot while a stray bullet killed a passer-by.
The Public Relations Officer for the police in the state, Henry Okoye, while confirming the incident, said “the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma; Commander 34 Artillery Brigade; and Joint Task Force (JTF) operatives are combing the scene of crime for evidence that will possibly lead to the arrest of hoodlums responsible for the attack and killing of two policemen at Ahaira Junction, in Ahaizu Mbaise LGA of Imo State.”
According to the PPRO, the command has set up a high-powered investigating team to go all out and clamp down on the assailants.
The CP therefore urged the general public to remain calm and cooperate with the Police by providing useful information that may assist in the apprehension of the suspects.
