The Igboeze North Local Government Council administration has begun the rehabilitation and upgrading of a gigantic building constructed way back during the administration of President Shehu Shagari, with the view to using it as JAMB Computer Based Text (CBT) centre.

The Chairman of the Council, Engr. Ejike Itodo, disclosed this in Enugu Ezike, headquarters of the council.

Itodo, spoke through his Special Adviser, Hon. Emeka Eya, when he received a team of Enugu State Good Governance Initiative (ENS-GGI).

The team was at the local government in continuation of its biennial inspection of projects undertaken by the councils in the state.

Eya said that the edifice, which was later commissioned by former governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani, as a skill acquisition centre, had suffered neglect and abandonment over the years.

“We decided to rehabilitate the building to serve as a CBT centre for JAMB candidates from Igboeze North and some parts of Kogi State, who are our neighbours.

“Nsukka is the only centre in the whole of the zone and this normally creates lots of confusion and frustration for candidates so, we decided to have one here,” Eya said.

According to him, the building was in recent past used by hoodlums as a hideout in the days of hightened insecurity in the area.

“Unknown people hijacked the building and turned it into their hideout but all those are over now,” he said.

The SPA further said that JAMB had visited the place for inspection and advised what were necessary to bring the building to required standard.

“Tht is why we are upgrading the building as part of requirements by JAMB,” Eya said.

Further, the council also carried out many other projects including construction of a new model market at Ogrute with lock-up shops, construction and completion of an office complex with over 36 offices.

Others include, a one-kilometre asphalted road with double drainages.

The Itodo administration also strengthened the Neighborhood watch in the area lading to peace and tranquility in a once volatile area that hitherto was taken over by bandits.

After inspecting some of the laudable projects initiated by the administration, the leadership of the team which comprised of Nigeria Union of Journalists Enugu State Council, Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Civil Society Coalition Enugu State, commended the Itodo-led administration for a good jobs.
