A former member of the House of Representatives, Linus Okorie has been cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to contest for the Ebonyi South senatorial bye-election.
This followed the publication of his name as candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for the election.
Mr Okorie, represented Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo federal constituency from 2011 to 2019.
He contested for the senate seat under same party during last year’s general election but lost to Senator David Umahi of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Okorie, 57 years, will slug it out against 7 other candidates of other parties including a University Professor, Anthony Ani Okorie, of APC who is also 58 years old.
Also listed is the former State Chairman of PDP, Silas Onu, 43, who will fly the party’s flag.
The two Okories hail from Onicha Local Government Area while Mr Onu is from neighboring Ohaozara Local Government Area.
Only one of the eight candidates is a woman according to the list published on Wednesday.
She is 46 years old Njoku Stella of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC).
Other candidates for the election are Eleje Ifeanyi, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), 68 Male,
Udeogu Uche Samuel (APP) 63 Male, Idam Leo Ogbonna, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), 39 Male, and Mba Christian Uchechukwu, Social Democratic Party (SDP), 40 Male.
