The Lawmaker representing Ohaji-Egbema, Oguta and Oru West constituency in the green chamber, Chief Eugene Dibiagwu, has appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency and other relevant institutions to come to the aid of Obitti community to avert imminent hunger and outbreak of diseases.
Chief Dibiagwu made the call when he visited the scene of the pipeline explosion that occurred in Obitti community of Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, which claimed the lives of about five persons.
He attributed the inferno to the activities of crude oil pipeline vandals who had continued to sabotage the nation’s economy.
He regretted that innocent persons lost their lives and farmlands destroyed when the fire which also razed a tanker used in bunkering gutted the area.
The lawmaker expressed the optimism that the petroleum industry act which has given more stake to oil bearing communities would help to check the activities of pipeline vandals as the communities are now co-owners of oil facilities.
“I condemn the dastardly act of these unpatriotic act of vandalism. It is against the well being of our people. I call on environmental agencies to please come in and do the necessary assessment and put in place the needed measures,” he said.
