The Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah Boxing Championship has commenced in Enugu.
The championship is being sponsored by the CEO David’s Hill Entertainment Centre, David Ebubechujwu Nwobodo.
In an amazing, terrific and intense display of boxing prowess in the opening contest, Stanley Obi defeated Chinedu Akaolise in the 60 kilogramme fight.
In another contest of more than 91 kilogramme fight, Kingsley Enekwachi defeated Victor Arum; while Kelechi Ugwu stopped Chukwudi Chiemezie in the second round of 91 kilogramme fight.
Another Enugu based pugilist, Joseph Okoh beat Kebbi state Japheth Iyiogu, in the 71 kilogramme fight. While Ndunagu Ransome beat David Chiemezie, in the 63.5 kilogramme contest.
Speaking at the venue, the sponsor of the Championship and the CEO David’ s Hill Entertainment Centre, David Ebubechujwu Nwobodo, expressed delight at the quality of the Championship.
He noted that he would continue to sponsor and motivate the boxers to do better and become the best in the world.
“I love sports, I love entertaining people.I like to put smile on people’s faces, that is what makes me happy. It is amazing, I love every part of it, I love what these guys are doing.
“We will continue to do this, as long as I get positive feedback, I will like to raise a boxer that will be better than Anthony Joshua here at David’s Hill, that is why we are here,” he said.
The Championship, a collaboration with Enugu State Ministry of Youth and Sports, is aimed at preparing Enugu State Boxers for national competitions.
The Enugu State Boxing Coach, Blaise Udeh, is the Chairman of the Organising Committee.
