Kidnappers of late Mr Israel Ugwuanyi of Ameze Owerre, Umabor community in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, have released his decomposing corpse to his family.
Ugwuanyi’s corpse was dropped by the unidentified gunmen by the roadside after three days in captivity.
Meanwhile, the driver of the ambulance from Lagos and two family members of the deceased are still being held by the abductors who have insisted their initial N50 million ransom.
A family source said that Ugwuanyi’s relatives have priced N200,000 for the release of the victims which the kidnappers has labelled as unserious.
“We have begged them to release our family members and the driver who have done nothing to deserve the kind of punishment they are passing through,” he said.
The family member said that the family is poor and had nothing to hide and appealed to the kidnappers to release them unhurt.
The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State had on Tuesday described the incident as family matter but said the command was on top of the matter.
The incident, happened along 9th Mile Road in Umuoka community in Udi Local Government Area last Sunday while the remains of late Ugwuanyi was being conveyed home.
