Anambra State Government has dismantled a criminal hideout and illicit drug hub along Enugu-Onitsha old road in Agu-Awka, the state capital.

The raid was carried out by Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) following a rapid expansion of the said criminal hideout and illicit activities taking place in the area.

Addressing Journalists after the raid, Head of Awka Capital Territory Development Control Unit Mr. Charles Ekwunife, said the move was to reinforce importance of swift and resolute actions in maintaining the safety and well-being of urban spaces.

According to him, ACTDA Enforcement Team successfully demolished the premises of illegal occupant in “shanty town,” revealing a substantial stock of various illicit drugs, and ensuring the evacuation of all residents.

He stated that the demolition not only signifies a crucial step towards restoring sanity and order in the capital city but also reflects the proactive measures taken by ACTDA to address pressing community concerns.

Residents, who chose to remain anonymous while speaking to journalists, expressed their satisfaction with ACTDA’s actions, commending the authority for restoring sanity in the state.

Joy-filled and relieved, they underscored the persistent challenges posed by the criminal hub and welcomed the intervention. They also thanked Government for coming to their rescue recounting instances of robbery, house burglary, and unchecked invasion by cows in their vicinity.
