Anambra State Government has announced plans to implement campaign against Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infection in all local government areas of the state.

The State Commissioner for Information, Paul Nwosu, said in a statement that the aim is to protect the girl child from  dreaded diseases like cervical cancer.

The campaign is being organised by Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency(ASPHCDA), in collaboration with National Primary Healthcare Development Agency and partners(UNICEF, WHO, GAVI, CHAI, etc).

According to the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer, ASPHCDA, Pharm. Mrs Chisom Uchem, eligible target groups for the vaccination are girl children between 9 years and 14 years.

She said major stakeholders in the state are presently being briefed of the exercise, which according to her will take place at fixed posts like health facilities and temporary posts, such as schools, churches, markets, town halls, motor parks and all places where eligible target groups will be found.

She advised girls within the age bracket to make themselves available when the vaccination starts on a date to be announced.
