The Enugu State Government says it is set to host mixed martial arts competition on Sunday March 31 in Enugu, the state capital.
The Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Lloyd Ekweremadu disclosed this on while addressing Journalists in Enugu.
He said that the event was part of the efforts by the government to grow all categories of sports in the state, adding that it was part of his promise to develop all aspects of sports to better the lots of youths in Enugu State.
He urged youths of the state to embrace combat sports to develop their skills.
“We are embarking on massive development of all sports and I want to use this medium to invite our youths to come and take part in combat sports.
“As I told you when I took over as commissioner for sports in Enugu State, I said we are looking at expanding the scope of sports in the state.
“It is no longer the time we restrict ourselves to a particular sports, we are looking to expand various opportunities that are there for our youths,” he said.
Ekweremadu disclosed that the One-Day championship was being sponsored by ITOUR AFRICA in partnership with Warriors Sports Championship (WSC).
Speaking, Wilson Uche, Chief Executive Officer of ITOUR AFRICA, said they decided to chose Enugu State because of the willingness and readiness of the State Government to grow various sports.
He disclosed that both international and local mixed martial artists were going to participate in the championship.
According to him, “it’s going to be the biggest of such championship in the South-East region of Nigeria.”
Uche commended the commissioner for working towards growing all sports in the state, saying that it was good for the youths of the state.
He said there would be prizes to be won by mixed martial artists who participate in the championship.
The Championship is billed for the Base event center Independence Layout Enugu.
