Mr Chinaza Ogumuejeogu, a Catechist of the All Saints Anglican Church, Onicha-Ebia, Ikem, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State, and to others have reportedly been killed by suspected herders.
This is coming as the nefarious activities of suspected Fulani kidnappers have recently resumed in the area.
Ikengaonline learned that the two persons murdered alongside the clergy were John Ede and his daughter, who were abducted at Umueje, Ikem-Etiti on Monday morning while they were working in their farm.
According to a source, who craved anonymity: “On Sunday night, bandits abducted Benedicta Abonyi at her home in Ikem-Uno, behind Ikem General Hospital, but due to intense gun battle between a combined team of security operatives and the kidnappers, she was able to escape.”
The slain Anglican catechist was reportedly attacked while he was in the farm with his son on Monday morning.
While his son escaped with a gunshot wound on his leg, the Catchiest died on the spot.
The catechist’s son is said to have been receiving treatment in a private hospital together with Benedicta Abonyi who had earlier escaped on Sunday night.
The police Command d in Enugu State is yet to comment in the incident.
It would be recalled that Governor Peter Mbah had recently granted a request by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Taofeek Lagbaja, to establish an Army base in the area following incessant attacks and reprisals by herders and farmers.
