Former Senate President and Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Senator Adolphus Wabara, has declared that any attempt by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to reduce Nigeria into a one party state, would be vigorously resisted.

He declared that Nigeria is too big to be controlled by one man or a cabal bent on manipulating the will of the people for their selfish interests.

The PDP BoT Chairman spoke on the heels of mass resignation of some notable PDP members in Imo State some of whom were zonal officers of the party.

He accused the ruling APC of using some elements in the PDP as moles to destroy the party, but vowed to resist such move.

Ikengaonline had reported that a former Governor of Imo State, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, on Tuesday, resigned his membership of the PDP, citing the lingering crisis over the position of the PDP National Secretary.

As the dust of the former Governor’s exit from the party was yet to settle, PDP was hit by another wave of resignation following the resignation of a BoT member, Chief Chris Okewulonu; Engineer Charles Ugwuh, Imo State Chairman; four zonal officers – Mr Stanley Ekezie, ex-officio Zonal Officer; Chief Austin Okeke, Zonal Publicity Secretary; Chief Emeka Nwokeke, Zonal Organising Secretary and Zonal Woman Leader, Mrs Ruth Nkwocha.

Similarly, a Local Government Chairman of the party in Imo, Mr Kissinger Ikokwu, State Legal Adviser; Mazi Emenike Nmeregini, State Publicity Secretary; Chief David Abanihi, State Assistant Treasurer and Hon Sambazz Iheaturueme, Obowo LGA Chairman, all quit the party.

Peeved by the development, Wabara said that the PDP BoT would swiftly intervene to save the party from implosion.

The former Senate President declared that the BoT as the conscience of the party, would not allow selfish individuals to be used to destabilise the PDP.

He said that the party had come a long way, and would not tolerate any form of manipulation.

“The BoT will wade in expeditiously to save the deliberate and planned extinction of this great party, the People’s Democratic Party.

“The BoT with the array of distinguished men and women of invaluable experience and integrity will surely salvage the party. The BoT did it once and shall do it again no matter whose ox is gored.

“The BoT will never allow the APC to use some characters in the PDP to turn this beautiful and sweet Nation (Nigeria) into a one party state.”

He said that the PDP had seasoned patriots capable of resolving any crisis in the most amicable way.

The BoT Chairman, had before the recent National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the PDP in Abuja, said that those expecting PDP to implode would be disappointed.

Wabara urged members of the party not to lose faith but remain resolute in their loyalty and support for the party.
