The current promotion examination for both Teaching and Non-teaching staff of Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, has been conducted, using the Computer-Based Test (CBT).

The CBT promotion examination test for staff from Grade Levels 13, 14,  and 15 who were due to move to the next levels, respectively, was held at Kachukwukwuru ICT Centre, Awka.

Addressing the ASUBEB Staff during the exercise, the Executive Chairman, ASUBEB, Dr. Vera Nkiru Nwadinobi, stated that the innovation was in line with the vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, to digitise governance at all levels and processes in the State.

Dr. Nwadinobi explained that ASUBEB cannot be operating in analog, while other sectors have embraced the current digital technology.

According to the ASUBEB Boss, the Board is already in the process of digitising both its administrative and teaching techniques, hence the need for the staff to embrace CBT examination instead of the traditional pen and paper style of promotional exams.

“I announced to the staff last year that we can no longer use pen and paper examinations which is analog format for assessing our staff,” she said.

According to Dr. Nwadinobi, “with this CBT examination, we want to let both the tutorial and non-tutorial staff know that the game has changed as far as conversion from analog to digital technology is concerned.”

It would be recalled that Mr. Governor distributed thousands of laptops to teachers, just recently, to enhance the digitisation of the education sector as he promised in his manifesto of disruptive change.

The ASUBEB Chairman noted that the digitisation process is already yielding huge dividends as many of the staff passed the CBT promotion exams, because the results are out.

She observed that the readiness of the staff to key into the digital trend would be beneficial to the education sector, pointing out that nothing is difficult when you apply the right energy.

For the ASUBEB, Secretary, Mrs Ebele Mgbemena, the successful CBT promotional examination format was an indication that nothing is impossible with the right motivation and focus, adding that the staff who were used to pen and paper examinations were fearful of the CBT examination earlier as they presented all manner of excuses but they eventually made it with determination.
