Stephen Ukandu, Umuahia

Abia pensioners, Thursday, marched through major streets in Umuahia the state capital to demonstrate their joy over the clearance of their accumulated arrears by Governor Alex Otti.

Otti who during his inaugural speech promised to wipe out pension arrears in the state, made real his promise in March when he approved payment of the accumulated arrears.

The pensioners who were decked in white attires sang solidarity songs for Gov. Otti during the march.

They also showered praises on the Governor for paying their pension on the 28 of every month along with workers still in active service.

“We now receive our monthly pension on time without stress,” they sang, pouring encomiums on Gov. Otti.

Coordinator of the senior citizens under the aegis of Concerned Abia Pensioners, Chief Emeka Okezie, told newsmen that Otti did what the immediate past Governor of Abia State failed to do after making several promises.

He prayed God to bless the Governor and give him more funds to also clear their gratuities paid last over 15 years ago.
