The management of seven-time Nigeria League Champions, Rangers International F.C. of Enugu, under the leadership of Barrister Amobi Ezeaku, is in a mourning mood over the passing unto glory of its former midfield maestro and team manager, Stanley Okoronkwo.
‘The Englishman’ as he was fondly called died on Monday, June 3, 2024 in Enugu.
An Ex-Rangers International Footballers Association member, Victor Oko, who confirmed the sad news on Monday, said that the midfielder died after a brief illness.
In an official statement signed by the media officer, Norbert Okolie, and made available to Ikengaonline, the GM/CEO of Rangers while reacting to the sudden demise of the former midfielder, team manager, and Ag. Chairman of the club, described his death as painful.
He said that the club would do everything to ensure that the late Okoronkwo would be given a befitting burial.
“The news about the death of the club’s legend, Stanley Okoronkwo, came to us as a shock as there was no information about him having any health challenge.
“However, we give God all the glory for giving us such a talent to serve the club at various levels and calling him back unto His glory at this point in time,” he said.
According to Ezeaku, “Rangers will participate actively in ensuring that the late footballer and administrator is given a befitting burial when the family communicates his burial plans.
“It is indeed a harrowing moment to talk about Stanley Okoronkwo in the past tense.”
It would be recalled that late Stanley Okoronkwo defended the colours of the ‘Flying Antelopes’ between 1974 and 1978 football season.
He played alongside Christian Chukwu, Emmanuel Okala, Patrick Ekeji, Arthur Egbunam, Aloycious Atuegbu, Adokie Amiesimeka, and a host of others.
He retired in the early eighties and later returned to serve as team manager and rose to become Ag—chairman of the club after the exit of Chief Emma Nkwocha in the year 2000.
