The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has sought the strengthening of policing towards the maintenance of public order and safety in the State.
The CP brought together Vigilante groups, the Hunters Association of Nigeria, and other relevant security outfits at the Women Development Centre, Awka, to hear from them and leverage their expertise and support in enforcing law and order in the state.
Addressing the gathering, CP Itam commended the Vigilantes and security Outfits for their commitment, dedication, and selfless service in assisting the Police to nip crime in the bud in the State.
He frowned at some of the abnormalities observed within the communities among the vigilantes like illegal detention of suspects, mob actions, illegal security levy, and assault on suspects among others. He advised the security Operatives not to allow themselves to be used against one another, especially on the Community they are expected to protect.
The Police boss pledged greater cooperation of officers and men of the Command to the legitimate and recognised security outfits in the State. The CP also proposed the creation of a State Policing Model anchored on the platform of the Police Community Policing Committee that will accommodate all security outfits to police the State, to make the sharing of intelligence information harmonised.
During the interactive session, the security operatives expressed satisfaction and stated their concerns which the CP addressed.
