The 13 Brigade Nigerian Army, Calabar, Thursday, emerged the overall winner of the inter-brigade Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers’ Competition held at the 14 Brigade Ohafia, Abia State, with a total of 6,920 points.

82 Division Garrison Enugu, and 34 Artillery Brigade Owerri, came second respectively with 6,780 points each, while the 44 Engineering Brigade Enugu, clinched the fourth position with 6,600 points.

The host, 14 Brigade Ohafia, got the Wooden Spoon after scoring 6,530 points to come last on the table.

Participants competed in weapon handling, shooting, half cross country, map reading/navigation, obstacle crossing, swimming, and drill.

Declaring the five-day event closed, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division Enugu, Major Gen Hassan Dada, said the competition was aimed at testing the combat proficiency of soldiers in the Division.

The GOC who was represented by the Training Officer in charge of the Division, Brigadier Gen. O. O Ojere, also said the competition would help promote team spirit among soldiers.

He commended participants at the five -day event for their resilience and display of competence in the various categories of the competition.

The GOC commended winners in various categories of the competition for their prowess, while urging those who did not win to do better in subsequent competitions.

He expressed hope that those who would represent the Division in the Nigerian Army inter-Division competition would return with laurels.

Brigade Commander, 14 Brigade Ohafia, Brigadier Gen. O. O Diya, had during the commencement of the competition, said that the competition was aimed at improving the leadership and organisational ability of WOs and SNCOs, with a view to preparing them for more challenging responsibilities.
