Senator Chris Anyanwu, has called on media owners in the South East to form a collaboration to enable them have one strong voice to stand up for the people and speak  against bad governance.

The veteran journalist and media mogul stated this Friday night while featuring as Guest Speaker on Ikengaonline townhall meeting.

Speaking on the topic, “The media, Civil Society, Politics and their effects,” Senator Anyanwu maintained that  Democracy works better in a society with a strong media voice to monitor, and investigate reports on governance.

She recalled how strong and challenging the media industry was during the military regime, and blamed the weakness of today on the poor economic situation, laziness and infiltration of quacks into the industry.

Senator Anyanwu decried the pauperisation of the media, due to the harsh economy and the commercialisation of media, sad developments that have greatly affected the mode of reportage.

She called on people of the South-East to encourage, support and invest in media outfits in the zone, rather than taking all their businesses and advertisements to media outfits elsewhere.

The media guru who noted that the zone is starved of resources and training opportunities for journalists, called on well meaning Easterners to collaborate with institutions and invest in training journalists to enable them to be more efficient.
