The Labour Party, Enugu State chapter has lauded the ruling of House of Representatives Tribunal sitting in Abakaliki which nullified the election of the PDP candidate, Simon Atigwe, and declared Hon. Dennis Agbo of the LP winner of the February 3, rerun election.

The party made the commendation in a statement released by the State Publicity Secretary, Barrister Onuorah Odo and made available to Journalists in Enugu.

He said: “I write to commend the uncommon display of courage displayed by the Tribunal judges in the Petition filed by Sir Dennis Nnamdi Agbo of Labour Party against Engr. Simon Atigwe of PDP over the rerun election conducted on the 3rd day of February, 2024.

“In a remarkable display of judicial integrity, the Tribunal has delivered a sound judgment that reaffirms the principles of justice and equality.

“By refusing to be swayed by external pressures and financial influences, the Noble Lords of the Honourable Tribunal demonstrated unwavering courage and commitment to upholding the law.

“It is commendable that the Tribunal remained steadfast in their dedication to impartiality. Despite odds and other extra jurisprudential factors, the Tribunal remained unshakeable.”

Odo, who is also the chairmanship candidate of LP in Igboeze North LGA for the October 5, election,  said that the judgment was a testament to the importance of safeguarding the legal system from undue influence.

According to him: “The courage, bravery and conviction displayed by the Tribunal added respect and restored confidence and admiration to the already decaying judicial system in Nigeria,” Odo said.

He stated that in an era where the integrity of judges was often called into question, the judges’ actions stood as a beacon of hope and a reminder that justice can prevail when “courage and principle guide our actions.”
