Electricity consumers in the South-East have warned Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) and Aba Power Limited (Geometric) to refrain from all forms of alleged sharp practices against their customers in the region.

They stated this on Wednesday in a communiques issued at the end of the Maiden Edition of South-East Electricity Consumers Summit.

The summit which held at the Dora Akunyili Centre in Awka was Organised by the South-East Electricity Consumers Association (SEECA).

The consumers at the end of the summit resolved that no outstanding bills shall be enforced on new tenants as a court of competent jurisdiction had ruled on the matter.

They insisted that EEDC must immediately begin to refund in credit kwh of an amount to the tune of N11.86bn it allegedly overbilled customers of electricity in the South-East between January to September 2023 as declared and as ordered by National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

They warned the EEDC to stop the arbitrarily billing of consumers and use the CAP methodology as issued monthly by the NERC.

The consumers warned the DISCOs in the zone that as a matter of urgency and for peace and tranquility to reign in the region to obey the rules as regards disconnections and particularly identify, reconcile and refund credits they over-billed customers before new bills are issued.

“Their field workers must be well informed that consumers are now informed. The era of targets to them on so-called revenue collections are gone for good.”

“Henceforth, transformers purchases and repairs, poles, wires, cables and prepared metres must be provided as requested by the consumers by the DISCOs,” they added.
