In their quest to promote academic excellence and reading culture among students, stakeholders in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, have initiated inter-secondary school quiz competition for all secondary schools in the council.
The competition, according to a statement by the stakeholders, Ikwuano Elite Forum, “seeks to trigger critical thinking and intellectual curiosity” among students in the council.
According to the statement signed by the Head, Media and Publicity of the organising committee, Mr Charles Nnaji, the theme of the competition is: “Igniting the Flame of Academic Excellence in our Next Generation of Leaders.”
The competition scheduled for October 17 and 18 at the multi-purpose hall of Ikwuano council headquarters, will draw participants from secondary schools in all four clans of Ikwuano —Ariam Usaka, Ibere, Oboro, and Oloko,
“They will gather to test their knowledge in subjects ranging from English, science and literature to history and current affairs,” the statement added.
It quoted the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Dr Obinna Ogbonna, as saying that the competition “is a celebration of the intellectual wealth of Ikwuano communities and a commitment to nurturing future leaders.”
“This competition offers a rare opportunity for students to step out of their classrooms and engage in a contest that encourages critical thinking, teamwork, and personal growth,” it added.
The statement further read: “Through this competition, we aim to inspire our students to excel in their studies. We are building a foundation of knowledge and leadership that will serve our community for years to come.”
It said that in addition to promoting academic prowess, the competition was designed to be a unifying force within the Ikwuano community.
“By bringing together students, teachers, and local leaders, the event serves as a platform for strengthening community ties and fostering a collective commitment to education.”
The statement said the competition would not only provide a stage for showcasing academic talents but also reward outstanding performances with prizes and recognition.
According to the statement, a cash reward of N200,000, N125,000, N75,000 and N50,000, respectively, await the best four students.
