The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has felicitated former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Professor Kingsley Moghalu over his recent appointment as the President of the African School of Governance (ASG).
Describing Moghalu as “one of our best and brightest, a development economist, a reflective scholar of world renown, astute bureaucrat, game changer, legal luminary, robust and creative thinker,” Ohanaeze said the appointment was well deserved.
The apex Igbo body in a statement signed by its Secretary General, Ambassador Okey Emuchay, said it was not surprised by the appointment considering Moghalu’s antecedents.
The statement made available to Ikengaonline read: “The appointment of Moghalu as the President of such a unique institution did not come to us as a surprise because of his robust intellect, requisite qualifications, global exposure, cognate experience and social skills.
“The vision of the AGS, amongst others, is to develop a new generation of purpose-driven leaders with the skills and mindsets to help Africa address the challenges of the 21st Century; offer world-class public policy education, research, and engagement programmes; and to transform the continent’s leadership landscape by meeting the diverse needs of leaders across Africa, etc.”
Ohanaeze recalled that Moghalu had served in several agencies of the United Nations: World Health Organisation; United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD); Sogato Strategies S.A; Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM), Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria; Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Kuala Lumpur-based Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI); Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, amongst others.
“In each of the above organisations, he demonstrated remarkable skills, exceptional diligence, elegance and panache. But, the most endearing of the Moghalu persona is that at a period most mundane public officers are absorbed in a rat race for illicit acquisition of wealth, he left the above offices with neither blemish nor tarnish.
“Therefore, there is no gainsaying that the African School of Governance (ASG) has made the best choice in Professor Kinsley Moghalu.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo has the supreme confidence that Professor Moghalu will leverage the opportunity to change the African narrative.
“While wishing Professor Kingsley Moghalu a successful and eventful tenure in office as the President of ASG, we are extremely happy that his disruptive intellect has found a broader expression in lifting Africa from its diverse deleterious scourges.”
