The Chairman of Igboetiti Local Government Council of Enugu State, Dr Eric Odoh, has inaugurated various Committees to manage different markets under the council for efficient revenue generation.
Speaking at the occasion, Odoh said that initiative was part of his administration’s strategy to generate more revenue, promote sustainable growth and improve market operations in the area.
While inaugurating the committees in his office in Ogbede, Odoh tasked the committees to provide a survey plan for the markets, and develop motor parks for easy movement of traffic and revenue generation.
He said that the council would work closely with them to ensure they succeed in their assignments by way of creating conducive environment for their success.
Odoh noted that the market management system would serve as a key revenue driver for the council.
According to him, a well-organised market system would contribute significantly to the financial resources needed for developmental projects within Igbo-Etiti.
“The establishment of these committees is part of our commitment to creating a more vibrant economic environment in Igbo-Etiti.
“We recognise that markets are the heartbeat of local commerce, and by ensuring they operate efficiently, we can better serve both traders and the community, “he said.
The committees, according to him, would also focus on improving the welfare of traders, addressing issues such as market space allocation, and timely conflict resolution.
He said that a key objective was to ensure transparency and accountability in market management, which would ultimately contribute to a more sustainable revenue system for the local government.
The inaugurated committees include Nkwo Ogbede and Ogbede Building Market.
Responding, members of the committees promised to deliver on the assigned duties within the time line given to them.
Present at the inauguration of the committees are the Vice Chairman of the Council, Barr. Nwabufo; the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), Hon. James Akadu among others.
