The Vice Chancellor of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Professor Aloysius Okolie, on Thursday, announced a total of 9,494 graduands for its 20th convocation.
These comprised, 6,949 first degree and 2,525 higher degree graduands, who have been found worthy of receiving the university’s seal of authority during its 20th convocation scheduled for November 23, 2024.
He equally announced that 199 of the first degree graduands made first class honours, while 2,060 others made Second Class upper division, and 4,456 made Second Class lower division.
The VC disclosed this during a press briefing as part of the activities marking the 20th convocation ceremony of the University at its permanent site in Agbani, Enugu State, during which he also announced that 56 graduands made Third Class.
He further said that the university produced 178 classified pass for Medicine and Surgery and Pharmacy graduands.
He said that the institution would also award 1,413 postgraduate diplomas, 790 Masters’ degrees and 322 Ph.Ds.
Okolie further announced that the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Peter Mbah, and a global investor, Mr. Bernd Bergmair, would be bestowed with Honorary Doctoral Degrees (Honoris Causa) in Business Administration in recognition of their remarkable achievements in the society.
According to the VC, the Governing Council, the Senate, staff and students of the University appreciated the award recipients for their leadership ingenuity and contributions to societal development.
He said that some qualified members of staff of the university were timely promoted, stating that the university had equally leveraged on TETFund interventions to sponsor staff to national and international conferences.
On academics, the vice chancellor said that the university had gotten 97% accreditation for all programmes being run in the university.
He appreciated the support of Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, on the successful accreditation of academic programmes by the National Universities Commission, NUC.
“Permit me ladies and gentlemen to seize this opportunity to appreciate and thank His Excellency, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for providing all critical equipment worth over N200, 000,000 for NUC accreditation and resource verification of Radiography, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Public Health and Biomedical Engineering.
“Indeed, ESUT ranks among top universities in Nigeria with modern and digital equipment to compete with other universities abroad,” he said.
