The Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Barrister Lloyd Ekweremmadu says the vision of the ministry is to have sports association boards with passion to grow sports in the state.
Ekweremadu said that the vision of the ministry was to have sports association members who are passionate about sports and with proven track records.
He said this while inaugurating the Enugu State Boxing Association Board, at the Conference Hall, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Enugu.
The Commissioner expressed excitement on the pedigree of members of the newly inaugurated Board.
He said that the inauguration was historic and speaks volumes about the members whom he described as having proven track records about boxing in particular and sports in general.
“Your inauguration, as hugely attended speaks volumes about what you are doing.
“It is historic; it is the vision of the ministry to have association members who have proven track records and who are passionate about sports.
“Almost all of you here have had one interaction or the other deserving being a member.”
In her acceptance speech, Mrs Cordelia Ogbu, who spoke on behalf of members of the board thanked the commissioner for inaugurating them.
She noted that, it was a privilege to serve the state and promised that the association would live up to expectations.
She informed the commissioner that her family would sponsor a boxing Competition in memory of her late husband, late Ogbu, who was Vice Chairman of South-East Boxing Federation and chairman Enugu State Boxing Association.
In his vote of thanks, the CEO, David’s Hill Entertainment and Event Centre, Mr David Nwobodo, noted that he was proud to be associated with boxing, adding that the commissioner has been passionate about sports development in the State
He said that he would continue to do his best to improve boxing in the State.
In their separate speeches, the Director Organising in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr Boniface Onovoh, and Director Coaching, Mr Ephraim Ochomma, pointed out the positive contributions of the boxing association, including winning laurels for the State.
They enjoined the association to stay focused and help the state to discover and nurture boxing talents.
The 16 members of the Boxing Association Board include: Mrs Cordelia Ogbu Chairman, Mr David Ebubechukwu Nwobodo Vice Chairman, Somadina Ani, Secretary. Others are Hon Barrister Lloyd I Ekweremadu patron, Mr Uchenna Okolo patron, Mr Tony Chibuzo Anichie member and Chibueze Nwoye member.
Other members are, Emeka Okeke, Charles Ike, Maxi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo, Uju Jessy Ikediashi. Other members include, Dr. Solomon Orji, Igwe Kerian Osondu Ngwude, Benson Whyte Ezugwu Media officer and Coach Blaise Ude Technical Director .
