The Enugu State Government says it would begin verification exercise for payment of gratuity and related entitlements on Monday, 24th February 2025.
A statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Chidiebere Onyia, said that this followed the successful completion of the verification exercises for active workers and pensioners, conducted earlier last year.
Onyia listed the purpose of the Gratuity Verification Exercise to include an update and validation of the records of retirees and their next of kin, and ensuring that only legitimate beneficiaries receive their gratuity and related payments.
“It is designed to eliminate fraud, discrepancies, and delays in the payment process as well as to create a reliable and accurate database for future reference,” he said.
The statement said that those eligible to participate in the verification are retirees, who were yet to receive their gratuity payments and Next of Kin of deceased retirees who are due for gratuity or related entitlements.
It would be recalled that payment of pensions and gratuities have been a serious concern to the Enugu State Government with many pensioners not receiving their gratuities since their retirement dating back to 2012.
