A homeowner has allegedly shot a schoolboy who entered his compound to retrieve a football, at the World Bank area of Owerri, Imo State capital,thereby causing tension in the area.
An eyewitness narrated that the incident occurred when the victim went into the suspect’s compound to retrieve the football which landed in the suspect’s compound while he was playing with his friend in the neighborhood.
Rather than handling the situation calmly, the homeowner reportedly opened fire on the child.
The incident has sparked outrage among residents, with irate youths taking to the streets to protest the attack, demanding swift justice for the injured boy, whose condition is said to be critical.
The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, is currently battling for his life at the Imo Specialists Hospital, Umuguma.
Some residents who spoke to Ikengaonline expressed shock over the incident.
“This is unacceptable. How can a simple game of football lead to such act of brutality,” a local resident questioned.
