Former Enugu Rangers Technical Adviser, Abdul Maikaba, has quit the club, a day after losing the 2023 Confederation Cup to Bendel Insurance of Benin.
The Benin-based Insurance defeated 10-man Rangers 1-0 to win the 2023 Federation Cup trophy at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Wednesday night.
Rangers Media Officer, Norbert Okolie, disclosed Maikaba’s exit in Enugu.
The gaffer announced his departure at an end-of-the-season gathering of players, coaches, management, and backroom staff at the players’ camp, Nkponkiti Road, Independence Layout, Enugu.
Maikaba said he won’t be re-negotiating his two years contract that lapsed with the end of the national Federation Cup.
He said he would not be renegotiating his contract with the team owing to family pressure.
He thanked the government, management, players, coaches, and other staff of the club for a wonderful working relationship while he was in charge.
“It has been a fruitful two years of working in Enugu that saw us compete for honors in various competitions.
“We got to the final of this year’s Federation Cup which we lost narrowly.
“I thank the Government of Enugu State for the opportunity to serve. I also thank the management, players, coaches, and other staff for their cooperation while my contract lasted.
“However, I wish to tell you all that I won’t be renegotiating my contract as pressures from the family front need my attention and I need to give it some attention,” he said.
Meanwhile, sources from the club has hinted that negotiations were ongoing between Enugu Rangers and former Plateau United Coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, to take over from Maikaba.
The team has been asked to proceed on break.
