The nationwide protest declared by the organised labour over the hike in fuel price, took a dramatic turn Wednesday in Abuja when angry protesters pulled down one of the gates to the National Assembly, and invaded the premises.
Despite stiff resistance by security operatives at the premises, the protesters who chanted anti-government songs forced themselves into the premises.
The protest to the National Assembly complex was led by the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Festus Osifo.
They were later addressed by Senator Ali Ndume (APC, Borno).
Ndume who received the written demands of the protesters promised that their demands would be looked into.
The protest, however, was largely peaceful.
