The China Communication Construction Company (CCCC), is partnering with the Enugu State Government for sports development in the state.
The Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Lloyd Ekweremadu, made this known while briefing Journalists at the commencement of 2024, Enugu U-15 youth games for the 17 local government areas.
Ekweremadu said that the games was designed to discover and grow young athletes that abound in the state for future national and international competitions.
He described the collaboration with CCCC as very strategic and a dream come true, adding that it was a pleasant development.
“I feel proud, full of joy and excitement for this partnership with CCCC,” he said.
The commissioner said that the development was not unconnected with the recent enactment of the Enugu State Sports Development Fund Law by the State House of Assembly.
“It might interest you to know that it was CCCC that approached us for this partnership and I believe this is as a result of that law.
“I believe that many other organisations and individuals will key into that law to push sports to the zenith in Enugu State,” he said.
Ekweremmadu attributed the several achievements of the ministry in the area of sports development to Governor Peter Mbah’s determination and commitment to move sports forward in the state.
He said talents discovered at the end of the games would be selected for the upcoming national youth games billed for Asaba in September.
More than 600 athletes and officials from across the 17 local government areas are taking part in 18 different sports including football, tennis, scrabble and judo.
