The Chairman, South-East Governors’ Forum, Mr Dave Umahi has raised concern over alleged plots by some persons to incite war in the region.
Umahi disclosed this while speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.
The Ebonyi State governor said that bandits were committing crimes in the South-East of the country under the guise of the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
He, however, did not reveal the identities of such individuals involved but warned that governors of the region would not allow what he termed ‘illegality’ to reign in the area.
“The problem of this country is that people will leave their problems and make your problem their problem. But what some of these people are doing is to incite the South-East into war and step aside.
“We are not going to buy into that; we are not going to be deceived again,” he said.
The governor said that the forum desired to protect lives and property in the area which was the reason behind the formation of the joint security outfit.
“People must be cautious and know that there are grand plans by people who have no interest in the South-East to incite them into war. We are wiser than that,” he said.
Umahi said that the only recognised regional security outfit in the area was the Ebube Agu, recently launched by the forum, adding that it was not formed in a hurry.
The governor, who blamed politicians for the insecurity in the area, reiterated the determination of the forum to fight the menace within the ambits of the law.
Recall that states in the South-East have recently come under attack by hoodlums who attack police formations and custodial facilities to set inmates free.
