Former Green Eagles captain, Dr Olusegun Odegbami, has announced that five generations of Nigeria’s national football team players will converge on Uvuru-Mbaise, Imo State, next weekend for a historic reunion and novelty match in honour of Chief Obioma Success Akagburuonye.
Odegbami disclosed this in a social media post on Friday, describing the event as a unique football and socio-cultural celebration to recognise Akagburuonye, who was recently named Sun Newspapers’ Humanitarian of the Year 2026.

According to him, former internationals drawn from the Green Eagles of 1980, Flying Eagles of 1983, Golden Eaglets of 1985, the Daman Miracle team of 1989, Super Eagles of 1994 and the Olympic Dream Team of 1996 will take part in the special match scheduled to hold in Ogbor Uvuru, Aboh Mbaise community, near Owerri.
The gathering, he said, is aimed at publicly celebrating the philanthropist’s contributions to society as well as marking his 60th birthday.
A galaxy of Nigerian football legends are expected at the event, including Felix “Owoblow” Owolabi, Sylvanus “Quick Silver” Okpala, Mutiu “Headmaster” Adepoju, Ike “Anobi” Shorunmu, Uche “Gentle Giant” Okechukwu, Finidi George, Daniel Amokachi, Samson Siasia, Victor Ikpeba and Emmanuel Amunike, among others.
Odegbami noted that the presence of the former stars would “paint Mbaise in the Green and White of Nigeria,” as fans and football lovers relive different eras of the national teams.
“All roads head eastwards to the Imo State capital, Owerri, next weekend,” he said, describing the occasion as a landmark gathering in Nigerian football history.
He also revealed that, ahead of the event, he would host a special radio programme titled “90 Minutes with Mathematical” on Saturday, February 14, 2026, featuring five former Eagles players from different generations, alongside an interview with Akagburuonye.
The programme will air on Eagle7 Sports Radio, 103.7 FM, Abeokuta, and will also be streamed online.
The former international added that the broadcast and the forthcoming celebration promise to be “simply unmissable” for football fans across the country and beyond.
