The new caretaker committee chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow, has declared that “nobody can uproot PDP” in the state, promising to rebuild the party and make it a dominant political force ahead of the 2027 polls.
Emeka-Yellow made the declaration in his acceptance speech after the nine-member caretaker committee was sworn in on Tuesday in Enugu by the South-East National Vice Chairman of the party, Chief Ali Odefa.
Other members of the committee are Chief Ochiobi Fidel Chukwuemeka, Engr. Gladys Okoro, Chidindu Kalu, Samuel Chukwudi, Kelvin Sampson, Lady Ugo Kalu, Obinna Nwaogwugwu, and Felix Nwagbara, who will serve as secretary.
The new chairman, who acknowledged the enormity of the task before the committee, promised to deliver without excuses for failure. He identified reconciliation of aggrieved members and uniting the party as one formidable force as major priorities of the committee.
Speaking at the event, Mr Ali Odefa, National Vice Chairman of the PDP, South-East zone, lamented the infiltration of anti-democratic forces, which he said had caused confusion and brought the party into disrepute.
He, however, expressed confidence that the judiciary would live up to expectations in the lingering PDP litigations.
“We are expecting that the judiciary will live up to expectations and let justice prevail. We are hopeful; we have confidence in the Nigerian judiciary,” he said.
Odefa urged the newly inaugurated Abia caretaker committee to uphold the image of the party in Abia and beyond. He told the nine-member committee that their job would not be easy and advised them to redouble their efforts to reposition the party and take it to the next level.
He stressed the need for all party stakeholders in Abia to support the committee in returning the state to the PDP, where it belongs.
