An Enugu-based Nongovernmental Organisation (NGO), Initiative for Eradication of Poverty and Empowerment of the Disabled (IFEPED) has called on the state government to domesticate the disability law. The President of the group, Mr Victor Ugwu made the call on Tuesday in Enugu during an enlarged meeting of the NGO. Ugwu also appealed to the state government to offer automatic employment to suitably qualified persons with disability as well as appoint such persons into the cabinet and as local government liaison officers. A Federal High Court in Kaduna presided by Justice P. Mallong has sentenced one Collins Samuel to two years imprisonment for fraudulently obtaining $8000 as COVID-19 benefits from the US State of Virginia. Samuel, who was arrested in Jos, Plateau State was said to have fraudulently presented himself as Ashley Coopper, an American citizen affected by COVID-19. He allegedly obtained $8,000 in Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) from Virginia, United States. The defendant, was on March 11, 2021 arraigned by the Kaduna Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on one-count charge that bordered on impersonation and obtaining by false pretenses. The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) says it has destroyed N800million worth of substandard goods in the last five months. The Director General of SON, Mallam Farouk Salim disclosed this on Monday in Enugu during the special day of the organisation at the ongoing Enugu International Trade Fair. Salim said that the measure was part of efforts by the organisation to discourage dumping of substandard products in the country. A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt presided over by Justice E.A Obile on Thursday convicted and sentenced a ‘United States of America military officer’, Chibueze Okenwa to two years imprisonment for impersonation. The Nsukka Journalists Foundation (NJF) has called on the Enugu State House of Assembly to repeal the 2017 Gubernatorial Pension Law in the state or face court action. The group in a communique issued at the end of its meeting condemned the recent attempt by the legislators to increase the benefits payable to the former governors and their deputies. The communique was signed by the chairman of the group, Mr Chijioke Amu-Nnadi, the Secretary, Brendan Eze and others. The Enugu State Police Command on Friday paraded one Peace Ndukwe, 32, and Ebere Eze, 48, for allegedly engaging in child stealing and trafficking. The Police Commissioner in the state, Mr Mohammed Aliyu told newsmen that Ndukwe, a native of Isuochi in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State and Eze, who hails from Enugu State were arrested following an intelligence. Aliyu said that the duo were arrested on March 10 and 11, 2021 through a combined effort of operatives attached to Aninri Police Division and Anti-Human Trafficking/Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The Nigeria Foundation for the Support of Victims of Terrorism — Victims Support Fund (VSF) on Friday handed over Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities worth N55million to three public secondary schools in Enugu State. A correspondent of Ikengaonline who covered the event reports that each of the schools received a 4000 liter solar-powered borehole, four hand wash stations and 2000 pieces of reusable face masks.
