An Enugu-based Nongovernmental Organisation (NGO), Initiative for Eradication of Poverty and Empowerment of the Disabled (IFEPED) has called on the state government to domesticate the disability law. The President of the group, Mr Victor Ugwu made the call on Tuesday in Enugu during an enlarged meeting of the NGO. A Federal High Court in Kaduna presided by Justice P. Mallong has sentenced one Collins Samuel to two years imprisonment for fraudulently obtaining $8000 as COVID-19 benefits from the US State of Virginia. Samuel, who was arrested in Jos, Plateau State was said to have fraudulently presented himself as Ashley Coopper, an American citizen affected by COVID-19. He allegedly obtained $8,000 in Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) from Virginia, United States. The defendant, was on March 11, 2021 arraigned by the Kaduna Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on one-count charge that bordered on impersonation and obtaining by false pretenses. The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) says it has destroyed N800million worth of substandard goods in the last five months. The Director General of SON, Mallam Farouk Salim disclosed this on Monday in Enugu during the special day of the organisation at the ongoing Enugu International Trade Fair. Salim said that the measure was part of efforts by the organisation to discourage dumping of substandard products in the country. A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt presided over by Justice E.A Obile on Thursday convicted and sentenced a ‘United States of America military officer’, Chibueze Okenwa to two years imprisonment for impersonation. The Nsukka Journalists Foundation (NJF) has called on the Enugu State House of Assembly to repeal the 2017 Gubernatorial Pension Law in the state or face court action. The group in a communique issued at the end of its meeting condemned the recent attempt by the legislators to increase the benefits payable to the former governors and their deputies. The Nigeria Foundation for the Support of Victims of Terrorism — Victims Support Fund (VSF) on Friday handed over Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities worth N55million to three public secondary schools in Enugu State.
