“The northwest’s problem is not ungoverned spaces as wonks like to say, but spaces governed by criminal sovereigns.”-James Barnett Bandits, Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād (JAS), or simply referred to as Boko Haram, the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP), Jama’atu Ansarul Muslima fi Biladis Sudan (Ansaru). They constitute an alphabet soup of terror groups in the business of stone-hearted killings and wanton destruction of properties across the length and breadth of northern Nigeria. So why should anyone waste precious time trying to make what may seem like an academic distinction between them? Well, except that if you treat simple…
“God, Who has fatherly concern for everyone, has willed that all men should constitute one family and treat one another in a spirit of brotherhood.” – Pastoral constitution on the Church in the modern world (Gaudium et spes). Nigerian Catholic church has seen some apostatic scandals in the past decade with Mbise Diocese’ rejection of Rt. Rev. Dr. Peter Okpaleke as their bishop, on the ground that he is not being their kinsman opening the doorway. Last week we saw and read that the Parish Priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ewu-Owa Gberigbe in Ikorodu, Lagos, Rev. Fr. James Anelu, has…
Study science, but Nigerians will not. Instead, we put our legs, arms, and hearts inside religion. Now, we are running around like chickens without heads, searching for how to stop ritual killings. Unfortunately, we cannot stop what we do not understand. Ritual killing is like paying tithe to the devil. It works the same way paying tithe to your pastor works. I will explain how. But first, let us get a few things clear. In a country with over 100 million people living in poverty while a tiny minority corners all the resources and displays an affluent lifestyle with careless…

This is the second time, since I started publishing articles under this eponymous platform, that the revered champion of African liberation from colonial debasement, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, is appearing on my headlines. Sadly, they are not for good reasons. On the contrary, they arise from heart-rending behaviour that tend to suggest that the good examples of selflessness and brotherhood set by one of the greatest Africans that ever lived, committed such great mentorship miscalculations that would be drawing tears from whatever remains of his “remains” in his Onusi Onira Mausoleum. The soul of this great African must be troubled by…

He pointed out that the…

The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) says it has no plans to deploy the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in the Feb. 23, 2022 local government election in the state. A Commissioner in ENSIEC, Mr Solomon Udeh disclosed this on Tuesday in Enugu during a Media Roundtable Ahead of the 2022 Enugu State Local Government Elections. Udeh said that the non-deployment of the device was down to the issues of logistics and finance. According to him, one of the logistics of election was finance and the usage of the device is not captured in the commission’s budget. “One of…
