Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Kukah, has renewed his advocacy for equitable distribution of democracy dividends and political appointments in the country.
The cleric who spoke at an event marking the 60th year at the bar of a legal luminary, Afe Babalola, told the Federal Government to stop sentiments and discrimination in the distribution of democracy gains.
This, according to him, will engender peace and unity of the country.
The ceremony which held Monday at Afe Babalola University, (ABUAD), Ado-Ekiti, attracted the high and mighty in society.
Kukah argued that leaders of Nigeria should pursue those values that would help cement the bond of unity and mutual trust among the various ethnic nationalities in the country, while avoiding divisive tendencies.
The cleric regretted that most Nigeria leaders limited development to their home town which, according to him, does not project democracy in good light.
Kukah lampooned the immediate-past President, Muhammadu Buhari, for concentrating development in his Daura town more than the entire Katsina State.
“I must say that Daura in Kastina has enjoyed development over time, owing to the fact that it is the home town of the former president, (Muhammadu Buhari).
“It is disheartening to know that even Kastina as a whole is not even close to development despite Daura being part of its domain. This does not speak well of our democracy.”
“Nigeria needs to grow, develop and democratise as it is democratisation of democracy that leads to democracy” he said.
