As Igbo communities mark the 2021 New Yam Festival, Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi will be the special guest as Okposi community celebrates on Aug. 14.
The Chairman of the Publicity Sub-Committee of the festival, Mr Magnus Eze disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Enugu.
Okposi community, known for its large salt deposits, is one of the foremost clans in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state.
Meanwhile, Eze said that first class traditional rulers in the state were expected to grace the cultural fiesta that would hold at Amaechi Primary School Field, opposite Enechi Ekuma High School, Okposi.
He said that a full complement of other segments of the traditional institution, including town unions, community leaders, including eminent sons and daughters of Okposi Ezinasato would participate in the festival.
According to him, the Ezeji (Chief Priest), Chief John Agwu and the three traditional rulers in the clan had assured guests that the best of Okposi culture would be on display.
The other traditional rulers are Eze Cosmas Agwu (Enechi Ekuma IV, Okposi Autonomous Community), Eze Esu Udeogu,
(Namoke II, Mgbom N’Achara Autonomous Community) and Eze Chuku Agwu (Odenigbo I, Okposi Okwu).
Ikengaonline reports that the New Yam Festival of the Igbo people is an annual cultural festival held at the end of the rainy season in early August.
It is a celebration of a successful farm season and depicts the prominence of yam in the sociocultural life of Igbo people.
