Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, on Tuesday said the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was favored to win the 2023 governorship election in the state.
He said this during the inauguration of Enugu State PDP Campaign Council for 2023 general election.
The Governor said the team led Mr Ikeje Asogwa was populated with tested, competent and experienced politicians who would ensure that all the PDP candidates in the state achieve comfortable win in the 2023 polls.
The Governor explained that, Enugu people had consistently voted for PDP in all the elections since the return of democracy in 1999.
“Our great party in Enugu State has enjoyed overwhelming support and kind consideration from the good people of Enugu State in the past two decades.
“This show of love, unflinching support and committed solidarity have been the wind in the sail of our party PDP in Enugu.
“The conservative PDP government in Enugu State had also striven to fulfill their contract with the people within the limit of the available resources,” he said.
While congratulating Asogwa, members of the organisation selected for the onerous task, Gov. Ugwuanyi reminded party members that, they were together and must work together for the success of the party.
“We must campaign for our party in our political wards, communities because when we win all the polling units in our wards, LGAs, the state is finally won.
“In reality, it is everybody’s business to sell our party,” he said.
He urged the campaign team to leverage on the excellent performance of the current PDP government in the state.
“The goodwill of our great party, intimidating credentials and general acceptability of the flag bearer of our party will make it easy for us to achieve landslide victory in the 2023 general election,” he said.
Ugwuanyi added that the PDP in Enugu State had a tradition of being peaceful, united, law abiding and yet resolute in the conduct of its affairs.
“It is therefore, my profound honour and privilege to inaugurate PDP campaign council for 2023 general election in Enugu State for total victory of our party.
“This too, by the special grace of God will end in praise,” he said.
Speaking, Asogwa on behalf of the team thanked the Governor for the opportunity and privilege given to them to serve.
“With the nature of the team, there is no doubt that, we are going to succeed.
“Our opponents know there is fire on the mountain and our assurance is that, we are going to deliver our candidates, including His Excellency, ” he said.
