The Enugu State Chapter of Accord Party has called on governors of states in the South East, Nigeria to either rise to the challenge of emerging insecurity in the area or resign.

The Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, Mr Raymond Ugwu, said this in a statement on Saturday in Enugu.

Ugwu described as alarming and disquieting the insecurity situation in the area, adding that necessary and urgent actions needed to be taken to avert the looming anarchy in the area.

He said that it was worrisome that the South-East region regarded as the most peaceful in the country had suddenly become hostile.

He attributed part of the problem to the inaction of the state governors whom he said created the yawning gap for insecurity to thrive.

On the emergence of Eastern Security Network (ESN), Ugwu said that the outfit emerged out of concern for the lacuna created by the five states governors in securing the region against hoodlums.

“While some governors are paying deaf ears to this challenging situation, others are being reluctant and indifferent in arresting the crisis,” he said.

The party chieftain said that the challenges posed by the current security architecture in the region was a pointer to the failure of government.

According to Ugwu, if it is in saner climes where leaders have integrity and self-respect, the governors should have resigned voluntarily due to their abysmal and colossal failure.

“The situation has proven that these set of governors have failed and lost touch of ideas and capacity to govern. They should honorably resign from their offices to give way for credible leadership,” he said.

He called on the people of the area to take their destinies into their hands by ensuring that none of the governors would install their stooges as successors.

Ugwu said that Accord Party was being repositioned for people oriented leadership and solicited the support of the people to make it work.
